Apple iPod Classic 1st to 6th generation.
This model really defined what the Ipod was when it was introduced to the market in 2001. Although it may be a long time and technology has progressed, these Ipods are still being manufactured by apple and sold new today in many retail outlets. The reason is Storage. Although the new Ipod touch and iphone are the Ipods latest products, they Only store up to 32gb of memory and they are expensive. The Ipod classics have as much as 160gb. If your loading video you will need this storage to load a decent amount of videos as well as music and other data combined. They are also popular as being used as a backup hard drive since they have so much storage capacity. so bang for the buck you will get more with the classic.
Apple iPod Shuffle
If you're looking for a simple Ipod with not a huge amount of storage capacity that just plays music that is very small this one is for you. Additionally if you're on a budget, It is also one of the cheaper Ipod mp3 players on the market.
Apple iPod Touch
Apple iPod Touch Second Generation
As far as the hardware the new iPod Touch is thinner than some of the prior models and includes a built-in speaker. The touch screen is a new technology and fad in all electronic devices. It also includes new features such as maps and internet access. The price is higher than the nano though so it depends on your budget and if you require these extra features. Overall it includes all the latest technology and is on the level of a PDA.

Apple iPod Nano 3rd - 4th generation
the Ipod nano was the ultimate answer and step ahead in technology from the traditional hard drive ipods. Although harddrives hold alot more memory flash memory uses less battery power, charges faster, is smaller than all other ipods except the shuffle but even thinner than the shuffle and should last longer since there are no moving parts. I highly recommend the nano.
Apple Iphone
The new Apple iPhone 3G has new features including support for high-speed 3G networks, third-party apps, and additional e-mail functions. You can make all your phone calls like you would any cell phone and you get your Ipod and videos and one. It's basically an all in one PDA
With improved cellphone use which is its primary feature, the 3g has improved from it's predecessor. The iTunes App is a great addition. The 3G support is helpful as well. When it is used heavily the battery gets depleted fast. Overall it's a fine product.
